The most famous of these islands are Santorini, Rhodes, Corfu and Mykonos, but there are many equally splendid but lesser known gems, far from the madding crowds, where you can stay in a small family-run taverna and enjoy true Greek hospitality, or experience a self-catering villa holiday. Due to the ferry routings, if you decide to go island hopping we suggest keeping to the island groupings shown below. Airport transfers will be arranged, or you can hire a car if staying on one of the larger islands to give you more freedom to explore.

Culture lovers can visit some of the country’s 18 UNESCO World Heritage sites, which include the Acropolis, Ancient Agora and Temple of Zeus in Athens, the Monastery of St John on Patmos, the medieval city of Rhodes, the Old Town of Corfu, the monuments at Thessaloniki, the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae and the archaeological sites at Delphi, Mystras, Olympia, Mycenae and Tiryns. It is easy to combine Athens with a fly-drive road trip exploring the historical sites of the Peloponnese.
