The Arctic Circle is known for its polar bears, most easily seen whilst circumnavigating Spitzbergen Island in Norway. North Cape on the mainland is the most northerly point in Europe. On the water, you will have the opportunity of spotting Beluga whales, narwhals, ringed seals and walruses, whilst on land you may see muskoxen, reindeers, Peary caribou, arctic foxes and hares. You will also see huge colonies of sea birds nesting on the cliffs. As the polar winter approaches and the skies darken, you may be fortunate enough to see the natural spectacle of the Aurora Borealis – the incredible ‘Northern Lights’ that burn through the heavens.

Antarctica is the frozen continent, 1.3 times larger than Europe and 98% covered in ice. Expedition Cruises usually set off from Ushuaia on the southern tip of Argentina, or from Punta Arenas in Chile. Some trips head straight south to the South Shetland Islands, whereas longer trips can include the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. Penguins are the star attraction here - including King penguins, Emperor penguins, Adelie penguins, Gentoo penguins, Rockhopper penguins, Royal penguins, Macaroon penguins, Chinstrap penguins and more.
