SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Winnipeg

Arrive in Winnipeg, once a fur trading post and boom town for the Canadian Pacific Railway, and today Manitoba’s cultural and commercial capital at the eastern edge of Canada’s vast prairies.

.Meet your expedition leader at an orientation and welcome dinner this evening.

Day 2: Fly to Churchill

Fly to the remote town of Churchill this morning. On arrival transfer to your hotel and later enjoy a Churchill are tour, a visit to the Parks Canada Visitor Centre and PBI House (Polar Bear International) where you can learn about Polar bears and research being undertaken.

Day 3: Polar Bear Viewing

The excitement ramps up as you board an official Tundra Buggy - a specially constructed vehicle that travels across the frozen plains to explore polar bear habitat. . Return to town early evening and later, enjoy a cultural presentation by a local resident.

We find ‘ursus maritimus’ even more majestic up close than we could have imagined. Yet these giant bears, the largest land carnivores in the world, are charming and whimsical too, and we are aware of what a rare treasure it is to see them in their wild habitat. As we watch them interact, we're delighted by their antics and rugged beauty. We may see mothers protecting and teaching their cubs, young males play-fighting, or massive adults patrolling the shore as they wait for the bay to freeze, which signals the start of their winter seal hunting season.

In addition to polar bears, we may see caribou, Arctic fox, Arctic hare, ptarmigan and snowy owls.

At the end of an exhilarating day, we return to town early evening and later, enjoy a cultural presentation by a local resident. If we are fortunate to have a clear night, the north’s spectacular natural light show may appear as darkness descends – as Churchill has some of the world’s most concentrated ‘Aurora Borealis’ (Northern Lights) activity.

Day 4: Dog Sledding, Churchill

Today's adventure is a dog sledding excursion in the company of a local musher for what

is sure to be a thrilling ride as you travel across the tundra. This is followed by a visit to the

Itsanitaq Museum which has a fascinating collection of Inuit carvings and artefacts.

Day 5: Churchill/Winnipeg

This morning you embark on another Tundra Buggy adventure to hopefully see more

amazing arctic wildlife. In the late afternoon, transfer to Churchill Airport for your return

flight to Winnipeg.

Day 6: Winnipeg

Your Memorable tour concludes

Important note on polar bear viewing from our operator: Since 1989, we have run over 1,500 departures to Churchill to view polar bears, and we’ve missed seeing them on just a handful of occasions. Some of our sightings are up close, and others are from afar, or even from a helicopter. It’s important to remember that while there is no better opportunity to see polar bears in the wild than our Churchill trips offer, the experience is weather-dependent. That means viewing polar bears - and the distance at which we may see them - is unpredictable and not guaranteed.
