Sweden is a spectacularly beautiful Scandinavian country blessed with abundant sparkling lakes, forests and glaciated mountains, as well as the birthplace of the memorable music of ABBA. The modern and progressive capital of Stockholm is built over 14 islands, with more than 50 bridges and a medieval Old Town (Gamla Stan). It is the gateway to the spectacular Stockholm Archipelago. Gothenburg on the west coast is a major sea port, with a Maritime Museum and magnificent Botanical Garden, whilst Malmö is linked by an impressive sea bridge to Copenhagen in Denmark.

Neighbouring Finland is another spectacular country of endless pine trees, lakes, saunas and wide open spaces. It is known for its quirky ‘wife carrying’ contests and some unusual food. Helsinki is its capital.

Denmark has as its capital the beautiful city of Copenhagen, with its many canals, bicycles, delicate porcelain and delicious ‘open sandwiches’. Key sights include the Nyhavn Waterfront, Amalienborg Place, Christiansborg Palace, Kronborg Castle and Tivoli Gardens, as well as many outstanding museums. This country also inspired the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, and was the birthplace of Legoland.

Lapland, in the Arctic north, is shared between Sweden and Finland and is home to the indigenous Sami people, whose lives revolve around the reindeer migration and who have rich traditions. In Jukkasjärvi you can stay at the famous ICEHOTEL, the world’s largest hotel made of ice and snow. It is constructed from scratch each year in November/December and melts in April/May, although you can visit the area all year round. In addition to the famous outdoor saunas, activities include dog sledding, snowmobiles, ice fishing, moose watching and ice sculpting. Viewing the amazing Northern Lights, is another astonishing experience. You can stay overnight at a Sami reindeer camp, or even visit Santa Claus at Christmas!
