With its snow capped peaks, emerald green lakes, green forests and Venetian-style coastline, Slovenia is a stunningly beautiful country, but far less visited than its neighbours of Austria, Italy, Croatia and Hungary. Roughly the size of Wales, Slovenia is a picture perfect outdoor destination, with Ljubljana as its historic capital. It has been blessed with majestic mountains and two great emerald lakes - Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj - both offering wonderful walking, hiking, cycling, fishing, birding and wildlife viewing. Triglav National Park is home to the highest peak in the Julian Alps.

Piran with its salt pans is one Slovenia’s most beautiful Mediterranean towns and Lipica is the cradle of the noble white Lipizzaner horses. The impressive Skocjan cave system and Postojna cave, with the Renaissance-style Predjama Castle situated at its mouth, are also well worth visiting. Slovenia can be enjoyed as a stand-alone destination, or combined with Croatia’s famous Adriatic coast, which is only a few hours drive away.
