Poland is rich in culture and history, with 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is also blessed with much natural beauty, with landscapes ranging from the wildlife-rich Tatra Mountains in the south that form the border with Slovakia, to the stunning Masurian Lake District and the Bialowieza Forest in the north-east and an idyllic seaside coast on the Baltic Sea. The capital of Warsaw is divided by the Vistula River and has a lovely Old Town. The second city of Kraków is simply stunning, with a well preserved Jewish quarter and a medieval Old Town centred around the stately Rynek Glówny (market square). It is ringed by Planty Park and remnants of its ancient walls. Both cities have clusters of monuments, museums, synagogues under restoration, and impressive buildings that reflect Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Nouveau architecture.

Outside these cities, Poland is a country of immense natural beauty, with a sense of space and scale rivalled only by the likes of Switzerland. Flat plains are broken on the horizon by low, gentle mountains dotted with medieval ruins and Teutonic red brick fortresses. Winding trails in the Carpathian Hills lead to picturesque wooden churches, rich forests and beautiful rivers, in a landscape that lends itself to outdoor activities. The food is also delicious, especially the pastries and desserts, and you are never far from apple strudel, fruit-filled dumplings and ‘lody’ (ice cream).
