The countryside is stunning, with a mountainous interior ideal for hiking. It has 10 excellent golf courses & offers a variety of water sports, including snorkelling & diving. You do not have to stick to the roads to explore, as there is a well signposted network of tracks and trails leading to the nature reserves, which can be reached on foot or by bicycle. The island also offers excellent conditions for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. The cuisine in the Canaries is excellent and local wine well worth a try.

In the south of the island you can stay in Maspalomas, San Agustin or Puerto de Mogán.

Maspalomas is a resort town known for its vast expanse of coastal dunes, rich in birdlife such as plovers, snipes and herons. The Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve contains several ecosystems, including palm groves and La Charca Lagoon. The tall and slender Maspalomas Lighthouse has been operating since the late 19th century.

Sleepy San Agustin offers a quieter alternative, with lovely golden beaches and safe swimming. It has a beachfront promenade where you can enjoy seafood & other Canarian cuisine. If you wish, you could visit the bustling resort of Playa del Inglés, situated on the road to Maspalomas.

The picturesque fishing village of Puerto de Mogán is set at the mouth of a steep valley on the south-west coast of the island. It offers a quieter alternative.

In the north of the island you can stay in the capital city of Las Palmas, which is a bustling cruise port that offers duty-free shopping.
