SAMPLE ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive in Kruja
Depart from the UK to Tirana where you will receive a private transfer to set out for the historic city of Kruja and explore the undefeated Kruja Castle, an enduring symbol of Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire. The Gjergj Kastrioti National Museum offers insights into Skanderbeg's life. Wander through the unique Ethnographic Museum, housed in an Ottoman structure from 1764, showcasing 15 rooms. Conclude the day with a delightful dinner at Panorama Restaurant. Optionally, explore the mysterious Sari Saltik cave on Mount Kruja, known for paranormal stories since 1325 if the vehicle can enter the road.
Day 2: Kruja - Durres - Berat
Begin your day with breakfast before heading to Durres. Explore the ancient amphitheatre and castle, both remnants of the Roman era. The amphitheatre, constructed between 117-138 CE, could accommodate 16,000-20,000 people with its elliptical shape. Stroll through the Byzantine Bazaar and waterfront, reaching the Venetian tower. Pause in the village of Roshnik at Alpeta Agritourism for wine tasting and lunch. Return to Berat in the afternoon, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich history spanning 2400 years, showcasing the fascinating blend of Illyrian origins and medieval transformations. Explore the Onufri Museum which is located in the castle premises. Then venturing into the charming neighbourhoods of Mangalem and Gorica.
Day 3: Berat - Skraper - Berat
Explore the 3-million-year-old Osumi Canyon, hailed as the Balkans' Colorado, featuring a 12 km trail, and towering 120-meter walls—a must-visit gem in Albania. The 2–3-hour hike unveils the canyon's unique ecosystem, caves, and captivating rock formations. Marvel at an island perfect for an adrenaline jump. Enrich your journey with stories and legends, accompanied by picturesque waterfalls, including the majestic love waterfall. Conclude the adventure with a minibus ride to a local restaurant for a delightful taste of bio-Albanian cuisine. Continue to Berat, stopping at Nurellari Winery for a wine-tasting experience on your way.
Day 4: Berat - Zvernec - Vlore
Following breakfast, depart for Zvërnec, home to Treport Castle, an ancient wall, and the remnants of a historic port. Explore the Monastery of Santa Maria, a Byzantine-era church dating back to the 5th century AD, nestled on an island adorned with tall pine trees and breathtaking natural beauty. Continue to Vlora, formerly Aulon, acknowledged by Hellenic figures Ptolemy and Lucian in the 2nd century AD. Embark on a cultural tour of Piazza della Libertà, the reconstructed old city quarters, and a stroll along the new seafront. Optionally, savour traditional cuisine and experience polyphonic music, a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage, in a typical restaurant, enhancing the evening with the enchanting sounds of our ancestors' stories (not included in final price, on request).
Day 5: Vlore - Sazan - Karaburun - Vlore
Embark on a group boat tour from Vlora to explore Albania's coastal wonders. Cruise to the Karaburun National Marine Park, swim, and board a speedboat for an adventure in Haxhi Aliu's cave. Discover the history of uninhabited Sazan Island. Enjoy a comfortable boat journey with swimming and snorkelling options, and the possibility of lunch on board. After a delightful day, relax at the hotel. In the evening, visit a natural terrace atop a hill, home to the Bektashi religious centre, where the Kuz Baba legend unfolds. Conclude with a leisurely stroll along Lungo Mare.
Day 6: Vlore - Tirana
Travel to Tirana and delve into its rich history. Begin at the National History Museum, offering insights from antiquity to Mother Teresa. Explore Scanderbeg Square, home to the Scanderbeg Monument and the Et'hem Bey Mosque. Admire the Clock Tower, a cultural monument since 1822, and the Palace of Culture, built over Tirana's Old Bazaar. The Tirana Pyramid, once meant as Enver Hoxha's mausoleum, is now a modern cultural centre. Enjoy a free evening to explore the vibrant nightlife in the city centre.
Day 7: Tirana - UK
Check out of hotel and get a private transfer to Tirana airport for your flight back to the UK.
